Step 5: Prepare for Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 230°C (450°F) at least 20 minutes before baking.

  2. Place a small oven-safe pan of hot water on the lower rack to create steam (for a crusty loaf).

  3. Brush loaf lightly with olive oil, sprinkle sea salt and extra rosemary.

  4. Score the top with a sharp knife.

Step 6: Bake

  1. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the crust is deep golden brown.

  2. The loaf should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  3. Remove and cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Tips for a Perfect Artisan Loaf

  • Use bread flour for a chewier texture.

  • Fresh rosemary gives the best aroma, but dried works well too.

  • Steam in the oven helps create a bakery-style crust.

  • Let the bread cool fully to allow the crumb to set properly.

Serving Suggestions
